Are American consumers reeling from high food costs so much so that they view organic food as a luxury item

Our previous post Michelle Obama’s organic garden makes big agriculture shudder raised a good question and chile libre commented that “the American consumer is already reeling from high food costs”, and that they would be much higher if the entire industry (farming) were to go “organic”.  

If this is true would it change the way in which you buy food for your family?  Let’s open this question up to a vote.
